Music
At Bamford Primary School music is taught by a specialist music teacher from Rochdale Music Services - Mrs Willis - as well as each class teacher. We are lucky to have our own Music Room which is well equiped with a wide range of cultural classroom instruments for composing and performing opportunities. Our music curriculum follows the National Curriculum guidelines and programmes and study - aiming to develop skills in a progressive manner across the three main skill areas used in music making activities - listening and appraising, composing and performing music.
Our specialist music teacher - Mrs Willis - a vocal specialist from Rochdale Music Services (who leads the Rochdale Schools Girls Choir) - leads our school choir, which achieves high standards with acclaim both within the school and the local community, winning the Rochdale Schools Choir of the Year in 2009 and 2010. The Music Manifesto outlines how Primary Schools should provide opportunities for all children to learn to play a musical instrument. At Bamford presently, all Year 3 children learn to play a stringed instrument for an hour a week as a part of the Wider Opportunities Music Scheme delivered by Rochdale Music Services. This is a part of the music curriculum and will culminate in a concert performance to the rest of the school and the children's parents. In addition to this wider opportunity music scheme, children can also choose to learn to play a range of musical instruments for a small fee with opportunities to perform to the whole school and parents through special music concerts at the end of the year. Some of the instrumental lessons currently taken up are : violin, flute, clarinet, trumpet, cornet, keyboard, guitar and drums. We have a range of extra curricular music clubs that children can sign up to attend such as choir, steel pan playing, tabla playing and ocarina playing.
We are continually striving to create links and opportunities within the community for our extra curricular clubs to share their talents. Recent performances have been held at Ashbourne Nursing Home and Bamford Chapel as well as producing our very own Bamford Primary School CD for our parents.
