Aims Of Our School

"Our School strives to attain excellence in a happy, caring, secure and dynamic community, where we all have the opportunity to achieve our highest potential for life"

by:-

  • The development of a wide range of knowledge and skills and the fostering of positive attitudes.
  • Ensuring that all pupils have equal opportunity of access to the whole curriculum regardless of class, race, gender or disability.
  • Developing an environmental ethos in which self-motivation, self-discipline and co-operation are fostered by all.
  • Encouraging pupils to retain and fulfil their individuality whilst sharing a sense of belonging to the whole school community.
  • Preparing the pupils to play their part in an evolving society both at work and leisure by ensuring education is a continuing process of exploration.
  • Fostering links with our community in the widest sense to encourage mutual understanding and support.
  • Encouraging the development of the continuity between home and school through a working partnership with parents.

The School's Role

We are personally committed to do our best for each child and we endeavour to create a caring environment within which each child:

  • is regarded as an individual and valued for their own unique qualities.
  • is happy, secure, relaxed and confident in their relationships with people, ideas and materials.
  • is encouraged and helped to achieve to the best of their ability in all aspects of their learning experiences.

We strive to keep parents informed as fully as possible about their children's progress, attainments and achievements.

If a child is experiencing significant difficulties over work, relationships or discipline, we contact parents at an early stage in order to enlist their help and support in resolving the situation.

We seek to provide parents with information on educational issues, particularly those which are known to give rise to misunderstandings or concerns.

The Pupil's Role

Each child is expected to work hard and is encouraged to give nothing less than his/her best in all that he/she undertakes. We expect each child to be tolerant towards all other members of our school community, showing a caring and considerate attitude towards them.

With our growing concern for the environment we expect pupils to appreciate and care for their school and surroundings.

The Parent's Role

We ask parents to support the school and staff by encouraging their children to have a positive attitude towards the school and its code of behaviour.

We ask that parents ensure that their child attends school regularly, arrives on time and conforms to the school's regulations regarding the wearing of school uniform.

We hope parents will take an active interest in their child's education and feel free to discuss issues with staff.

We would ask you to bring to the attention of the school any circumstances which may affect the well being and behaviour of your child.

We welcome parents into school and appreciate their assistance in all areas of the curriculum.

Your constructive suggestions for improvement of any features of the school are always welcomed and are given genuine consideration.

Visiting School

Visits to the school are most welcome and encouraged. Please telephone the Headteacher to make an appointment to view the school in action. Prospective pupils are also most welcome.

Attendance And Punctuality

We believe that good attendance and punctuality is very important, so please ensure that your child attends regularly and arrives at school in good time for each session. School starts promptly at 9.00 am and children arriving after this time are considered late. If your child is late s/he must go to the School Office and inform Mrs Warrington who will mark them in the register.

It is also important that you inform us in writing, of any reason for your child's absence. Please try to make medical appointments, such as visits to the Doctor or Dentists, after school whenever possible. Please note the following:-

All absence of children from school must be explained by writing to inform us as to the reason for the absence e.g. illness

All holidays outside the normal holiday pattern must have the consent of the Headteacher, prior to the absence. 10 school days is allowed for family holidays, any additional days will be marked as unauthorised absence.

Absence for such things as birthdays, shopping, days out etc. will be regarded and marked as absence without the school's permission i.e. unauthorised absence. If in doubt please consult the school.

If your child is absent for more than three days and we do not hear from you as to the reason for this absence, the school will automatically refer the absence to the EWO (Education Welfare Officer).

School Council

We have our own School Council and elections take place for this each year in early September. The School Council consists of a group of children elected by their peers to represent them on school matters. The School Council will also be a main aspect of our work on Citizenship.

Bertie Bamford Club

The first real contact your child will have with school will be through our 'Bertie Bamford Club'. For the Summer Term preceding entry a pre-school group meets one afternoon alternate weeks from 1.30 pm until 3.15 PM
Our aim is to ease children's transition from home to school and to create an opportunity for their parents to meet the staff (and each other), whilst participating in the children's activities. The children themselves, whilst taking part in some enjoyable activities, will also make new friends and meet their future teacher.

Berties Before and After School Club

Berties Before and After School Club is held in the hall from 7.55 AM - 8.55 AM and from 3.35 PM - 5.30 PM in the hall, library and music room. This is only for Bamford School children and is supervised by staff employed by the school for the specific purpose. A charge is made for this facility which we hope is of service to our many working parents.

A light breakfast is provided for Berties Before School Club and a snack tea for Berties After School Club.

Further details are available from the school office or by contacting the Club Leader Mrs. Pam Heywood. C/o of the school.
